Dear Friends,                                                                               Sept. 13, 2011

We have been enjoying good services and some good evangelistic opportunities.  There is a new weeknight Bible study in the south part of the City.  I am teaching in four different studies during the week as well as a Saturday ‘Mini-Institute’ and regular Sunday preaching.

I continue traveling three times each month to give the Institute studies in Guatemala, Nicaragua and now in Mérida.  We hope to make some changes early in 2012 that will permit us to delegate some of the Institute responsibilities to other men.

The Lord gave us a good start the first week of Sept. with the Institute in Mérida. There were over 30 men who attended. It will take time to see how many follow through with the studies, and are committed to putting into practice what they learn.

There continue to be some potentially serious problems in the work in Managua.  The opposition in Nicaragua has been prolonged and ongoing, but we trust the Lord will give us wisdom and grace to proceed.  We faced similar opposition in Guatemala, before seeing a positive change that transformed the situation.

Some of our men are traveling twice a month to Puebla to preach in the new mission.  The start of regular Sunday services in Michoacan is still on hold until some issues with the logistics can be worked out. There is a weeknight study there and some of the folks are traveling to Irapuato on Sundays.

We are in the process of solving our Risograph digital press situation.  We would like to purchase a new (or newer) machine, but need some time to analyze the options. We recently purchased a used machine that will serve as a source of spare parts for the press that we have.  The dealer here can no longer guarantee us parts because our GR2750 is too old.  They want  $15,000 for their newest high tech press.  We are looking to find something used in the USA that we could import into Mexico for a much lower price.  We have 40-50 titles in Spanish that we try to keep in print as well as various ongoing translation projects.

The ATF ‘Fast and Furious’ (Operation Gunrunner) scandal has raised quite an uproar here.  The politics involved in this are inexcusable and hopefully will backfire on those who approved the operation.  Now Mexico has another reason to blame the drug war on the USA. The Gunrunner scheme seems to have been a plan to blame Mexican drug violence on gun shops in the USA, thus providing a pretext to attack the Second Amendment and further restrict gun sales. The outrage centers on the fact that the ATF approved and pushed the gun sales. The result has been more bloodshed and mutual recriminations on both sides of the border.

Luke and Carolyn are into the fall schedule at the UNAM University and Mark continues with a difficult schedule at Banamex (Citibank). Carolyn’s parakeets recently hatched four babies, so we presently have a lot of ‘noise’ in the house. Lissa is doing well.

We are always thankful for your prayers.
